i just read all of your comments on my recent post about the song on american idol (i hope there is more dialogue to come) and i wanted to thank you for sharing your opinions and thoughts. so i am taking the chance to respond to all of you. i agree with pieces of all your comments and this is my conclusion after sleeping on it...
my frustration with the choice of song and them has mostly to do with a very long lasting conviction i've had about christians being christians. actually standing up for our lord and not shying away from the personal contact with those who need to hear. a large % of christians i know do nothing. they never share their faith, they don't stand up for what they believe and so their christianity is questionable, dumbed down. I tim 4:3,4 says "the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine instead to suit their own desires they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." this is exactly what we've been talking about in our twisted series at church. the enemey is all about twisting the truth and dumbing down our savior in the world's eyes. SO when i hear a song like that with so much doctrinal truth and substance, sung by hollywood, i get angry.
ok...on that note though, i do agree with many of you that it can and will be used to glorify god. i couldn't find the verse, but i know there is a portion of scripture that talks about prophets teaching for their own agenda and even though they are false, god can still produce something good out of it. this is what i cling to when things like this come about. i do have to take into consideration what melissa said, that the writers have to give permission for the song to be used SO to end, darlene must have known, prayed about it, and believed that something great could come from this song being sung to millions of people all over the world. she's an amazing spirit filled believer who walks the talk.
i guess that's all for my soap box. as plumbly said, it really doesn't matter in the long run. god's in control and no thing is too big for him.
thanks again for all your great feedback. always makes for a good conversation and just something for us all to think about.
