daily routine

i don't know if it's just me, but i just love to watch my son. i was observing him this morning and thinking about how funny it is that at 11 months he has a routine down.
every morning, it begins with letting me know when he's ready to get out of his crib. sometimes he'll hang out and play for a while. then the squeels of frustration begin. so i go in to get him and i'm greeted with a smile (which is the absolute best!). as i come towards his crib, he runs. i do my best to "chase" him as he runs from corner to corner (inevitably ending in a fall. if we're lucky, he'll miss the crib and hit the bumper!)
i pick him up and he looks up to the light and points and says "bwah!" that is light in baby language. he's obsessed with them. then i get a little hug with his sweet head on my shoulder.
we change the diaper, usually with some resistance, throw on his robe and head downstairs. he has to be held as i fix his bottle. if i dare put him down it's all over. once the formula is in, he always starts whining and almost crying cause he realizes how hungry he is i guess. so we go to the couch, i curl him up in my arms, and he guzzles away.
when he's finished, he pushes the bottle away and wants down to begin the morning play routine.

he literally has a circle he goes in. he usually starts with the old remote i gave him and then he's off, over to the window by the end table to talk to the pups for a bit. then he makes his rounds in the kitchen, opening a few cabinets, talking to himself. he'll usually end up at the stairs to hang on the gate a bit. then to the dining room window to talk to whoever or whateve is outside. back to the kitchen to open a drawer of tupperware! he will drag out almost every one till he finds the one he wants to play with. he'll carry it around for a while until he's "over it". then it's off to his toys. he fiddles around, but typically does not find much he's interested in. he'll most likely end up on his "lightning mc queen" car to push some buttons, climb up and down. then up and down again. this can end in a fall too which i will console till he's ready to finish his routine. then he will go find something else to open or push, like my barn cabinet, my bench, or his high chair.
then he sees the remote he had earlier and it starts all over again.
this will usually last about two hours in all. THEN he's ready to go back to sleep. fussiness and rubbing the eyes gives him away every time. he can't fool mama. there's usually a bit of resistance. he's so funny cause he know when i go into his room and leave off the light it's bound to happen and he starts to cry a bit. but as today and every day before it, i lay him down and he's asleep w/in about 10 minutes.
so there you have it. that's what our morning looks like every day and i love it! i look forward to it. i adore him and his little personal touches he adds to my life and routine. he's everything i could have imagined and so much more.
so i hope this makes you stop, look, listen, watch, and then thank God for your little ones. it helps to remind me too, to appreciate it all for what it is. life. just good ole life.

ahhhh... the routine of a child. we, mom's, are such students of our kids. i could write a dissertation on the routines going on here. but, that's the fun of having little ones moving through life with us.

i will tell you that on those mornings when i am all alone (which isn't often) i seriously miss it. but i also miss the nighttime routines, it's such a sweet time when the kids get their baths and they smell so good, and they are all warm and cozy and ready to snuggle.

every once in a while, if i have a night out with friends and jake handles everything by himelf, i often come home a little sad that i wasn't here.

something to keep in mind, rykon is at the age where he will notice when things aren't the same in his environment. if you changed the room around or moved something, experts say babies notice all of that. so in a way, when he runs his circular race every morning, he's making sure everything is as he left it. so cute. it's just as much his chair, cabinet, door, carpet, as it is yours now.

he's growing up.

love it. thanks for the info. we need to get better about our evening routine. that's the only one rich get's to be a part of. so we need to hone in on that for rykon's sake
thanks again hot potato
