did you say what i think you said?

that's what i was thinking when a close friend of mine told me she was going down to help campaign with a friend for obama. you know, i could except that from some people i know that are NOT christians, but not this gal. not one who is a born again christian and very active in church. now, i'm a fair human being. i can acknowledge that obama may have some good policies in his pocket, but all in all, he does not represent biblical principles and values. i say that because some of my core values do not line up with his and i base my world view and values on what the bible teaches. one of the major ones is his pro-choice stand. he is not just pro choice in rape/incest situations. he supports partial birth abortion and voted against a bill that supports providing care for babies that survive abortions. there are many unhealthy/negative changes that could come about IF he is elected (i'd be happy to explain in more detail if you're curious). but right now, i'm not going to talk about that. what i am going to do is give you something else to chew on.
when i was thinking about the fact that some of my christian friends were voting for him and thinking about why it is i don't feel comfortable with this man being our president, these scriptures came to mind:
II timothy 3:1-9
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.
AND 4:3-4
for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables.

is this what's happening? are people giving into their own fleshly reasoning? are we "reasoning, justifying" our actions? are we just listening to what makes us feel good instead of the Word of God, which is "sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit" (heb. 4:12)? we need a little dividing if you ask me. it's time for christians to decide who they will serve. we have to acknowledge the truth of what obama stands for and what he could potentially bring into this country if he is elected. if you believe that what he represents sits ok with you, then show me where in the bible we can compromise in who we choose to follow. try to find support for his views in the bible and then tell me you could still vote for him. we cannot support a candidate that does not even respect the very basic value and rights of human life. the shedding of innocent blood is murder and sin. defending the right for same sex marriages goes completely against biblical teaching. just so you know, obama recently commented that if his daughter were to become pregnant at a young age, he would not want her to be punished for her mistake. what? what kind of jacked up reasoning is that? well, i'm not standing for it. i've cast my vote and proudly. i voted on thursday last week and felt such a sense of patriotism! i LOVE this country and i will fight for our right to stand on what this country was founded on! the WORD OF GOD. i am proud to say i was able to leave the voter's booth with good conscience & i hope that you will to!
i will end on a bit of a lighter note just for all of you who hate these kinds of posts.:O) when you vote, keep your "i voted" sticker and you can go to krispy kreme for a free star shaped doughnut, then walk next door to starbucks and grab a free coffee.

now go do the right thing! (dr. laura)

Thank you for standing for Biblical principles as you stood in the voting booth.

May many more do the same!

bravo steph! I agree wholeheartedly. we have turned from our first love. we can't let someone tickle our ears and fall for satan's lie. thank goodness GOD is still in control. we are going to need HIM to get us through this mess that is brewing. don't forget to pray for our nation. we are still the greatest nation on earth, for now anyway.

yeah...jen, me too. but honestly. some christians do not like the fact that i take this stand. but that's ok. for those who vote for obama, i honestly hope things don't turn out like they potentially could over the next four years IF he wins. i would not want to bear that burden that i played a part by voting for him. but that's between them and god. maybe it'll be fine if he wins. guess we'll see. i'm believing god for mccain to take office!
