so for our fifth, we'd planned a romantic get away to mccall. let me tell you, i've been jonesin for those fluffy, creamy, blanketed white snowy mountains. i long for the snow this time of year and mccall was just what the doc had ordered. some r&r, skiing, sleeping in(what is that again?), no mommy/daddy duties, and just some good ole one on one time. well, life would have it that my little one got sick. sick enough that we could not leave him with his auntie as intended. i won't lie. i was very sad, mostly disappointed. but what are you gonna do? as my dad so delicately put it, "welcome to parenthood dweeb." yeah...got it.
so instead we celebrated here. my mom graciously stayed with the boy while rich planned a nice day out for us. each year we rotate anniversary and valentine's day so that we both get a chance to plan, create, and do something for the other person. since this year was rich's, he scheduled a surprise 90 minute massage for me. ooohhhhh! speak to my soul! i long for massages. it was wonderful. then we went home, got dressed, and headed out for dinner at the wonderful restaurant berryhill. i'd never been and i'd have to say, after an insanely great meal, it would have to be at the top of my list now. it was delicious. great service, great atmosphere, perfect all around.
but i've saved the best for last. my sweet hubby did some research to find that on the fifth anniversary, the traditional gift involves silverware and wood. well, silverware was out of the question so he got creative. that evening he gave me this

it's a sterling silver ring with a petrified wood inlay. it was even more beautiful in person. (ask me, i'd be happy to show it off!) definately had me written all over it and the gesture made it pricless.
thank you sweetie for such thoughtfulness. you've always known how to make me smile. i love you very much and i look forward to many more excellent, memory filled years.
