Our America?

Thousands marched in Portland downtown streets Sunday to protest the fourth anniversary of the start of the war. As the march along 24 blocks ended, a group of young people led police on bicycles, horses and motorcycles through downtown
The photos showed protesters gathered around a figure wearing U.S. military fatigues and a crude skull for a head as it and an American flag were lit on fire.

Other black-clad, masked protesters carried a black banner that read, "No Gods, no country, no masters," and a circle A anarchy symbol.

Palinkas went to the protest march Sunday because some friends were going and she thought it a good opportunity to snap photos.

"I was shocked! Cause I haven’t seen anything like that before, you know, so I was kind of scared and confused like, ‘what's going on who are these people?’ I'd never seen anyone burn the American flag or any act of burning an effigy."

She published the pics Sunday on her Facebook account. The Drudge Report grabbed it Wednesday and it took off nationally.

She's received dozens of email in angry reaction to publishing the photos.

“They and their friends are not anti-war: they are for anyone opposing this country,” one viewer wrote in the Vanguard blog, where the photos appeared. “The people they hate most are the American soldiers (whom they term “mercenaries” and in a different era called “baby-killers”) who dare bring freedom to an oppressed people under our flag.”

There was no word on the identity of the protesters.

** Does this burn you up the way it did me? i first heard about it on the dr. laura show. she was in an uproar about it. you may not have heard about it cause the media doesn't want it to get out. i have to say that i am SICK of unnappreciative, ignorant, sinful people living in this country. SICK of it!!! it is wrong! it is evil! it is sheer hatred for the very thing that gave them the right to do what they did! they don't get it. whether or not they agree with why we are in iraq does not give them the right to desecrate our soldiers. those people are giving up their comforts & risking their lives for our freedom & for the freedom of the victims in iraq. i'm just tired of it. i say ship them all out to another country and let them really feel the affects of living somewhere that is not founded on democracy...where if they tried some crap like that they would be killed. i have no problem with people expressing their dissagreement, but this is going too far. we have a serious problem of terrorist behavior in our own country by our own countrymen. but far more serious is the problem of muslim terrorists. don't these people get it? we have a war on our hands with a group of people that hate us. just as much as ishmael hated isaac. they will stop at nothing. and just an fyi...this 2% (so said) that are considered the fanatical muslim are actually the ones that are obeying the Koran at it's core. The Koran teaches that by any means, including force and violance, Allah is to be exalted. so the supposed 98% of muslims that are not violent either are lying or are ignorant worshippers. if they don't agree with the violence then why aren't THEY trying to stop this measly "2%". it's ridiculous. and another fyi...the muslim religion is the fastest growing religion by birth alone in the world. we better open our eyes or before we know it, we will be overcome.
i just hope you will let your heart burn too and pray to that God rescues us because this country of selfish, undeserving humans are trying to destroy the very foundation on which this country was established. we as christians have got to care. we have to pray.
"FATHER, give us courage to stand at the front lines. to fight to the death for you. to give our heart and soul in all we do. to stop this country from self-destructing. but most of all, give us love. if we cannot fight with a heart full of love, then we are just as ignorant. i pray that you will reach down and touch the hearts of the Christians and break the heart of the sinner. thank you for redeeming us. Let the freedom you give freely reign in our hearts, that this country will hear your call and coming running to repentence!"

"Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. " Isaiah 55:6,7

great thought provoking post. i wasn't aware this happened--just think not so far away from here. i don't have dr. laura on so much anymore--i used to all the time when i was working in outside sales and spent a lot of time in the car.

i love the passion and conviction you put out there. hopefully it challenges us to step up to the responsibility of our faith and freedom. you are right about this country waivering on the verge of self-destruction--i too am uneasy and disturbed when i see things like this going on.

no respect. no sense of value. no ownership. what ever happened to "united we stand, divided we fall"? maybe that should be our new name...divided states of america.

I love that you posted this, and with such enthusiasm. I really enjoy Dr. Laura too, hardly ever get to listen to her anymore though. Thanks for such a great post. You are so right about standing "united" as a country. We are blessed to have opportunities here and choices. To have freedom, education, different religious beliefs, ethnic backgrounds, everything that this country was founded on. This is such a great country we live in. Notice that everyone involved in the "act" had some sort of a mask on. What a bunch of cowards!!!

great thought provoking post

huh? i don't see any thoughts in her rant at all. This is vitriol. Thoughtless anger with no logic in it at all.

Praying is wishing.

who is mike? you've commented twice and i have no idea who you are. sorry.

SPARKY said...

mike, maybe i'm not understanding what you mean, but praying is not wishing. it's diaglogue with the almighty creator who has the power to stop evil things...but he desires us to ask him. he allow us to be a part of what he does. that in itself is miraculous.

Great post! I don't sense anger but rather frustration with a group of people who refuse to see any other point of view other than their own and who have no real underanding of the meaning of anarchy, but pretend to embrace it...like Mike. Ignornace is not just the abscence of learning, but also the refusal to learn from what is apparant around us. Ignorance should never be appeased but rather resisted and confronted. Good job on doing both, Sparky.

hey.

This angers me too. My brother has been deployed once, and will have to again, and its quite infuriating to see that he does risk his life so that protestors like these can do what they do.

I think it is a right action to pray for those who claim to be a part of God's family by being Christian. God desires us to go to him with our concerns and our wories and our angers and frustrations.

Anywho, thanks for making us cookies lastnight! There were alot left over. hehe.

I'm not sure if you'll even read this. I don't know if there is a way to email you. I just wanted to clarify something that you had said that made me feel very sad
"and just an fyi...this 2% (so said) that are considered the fanatical muslim are actually the ones that are obeying the Koran at it's core. The Koran teaches that by any means, including force and violance, Allah is to be exalted. so the supposed 98% of muslims that are not violent either are lying or are ignorant worshippers. if they don't agree with the violence then why aren't THEY trying to stop this measly "2%". it's ridiculous. and another fyi...the muslim religion is the fastest growing religion by birth alone in the world. we better open our eyes or before we know it, we will be overcome."
Unfortunately you are mistaken in your understanding of Islam. I was never taught that Allah loved violence and force. But just the opposite. we are taught peace and tolerance in Islam. Perhaps you have taken this out of content as much of this religion is. So you seem to believe that 2% percent of these crazy idiots that go around blowing themselves up are what "Real Muslims" are? and the other 98% of us are clueless. I find that interesting that you wouldn't look at the other way around. How about that Islam preaches peace and that the 2% are the ones giving our religion a bad name by supposedly "doing what Allah has called upon them"
I can go on and on on this subject.
I just wanted to clarify, You might have wrongly understood what Islam is all about. I appreciate your post and agree that although we do have a freedom of speech what those people did at the rally was totally uncalled for.
It's hard to read a certain tone when it comes to email and posts, so I want you to know that this is not meant to be rude or upsetting. Just a muslim who wanted to fix a misunderstanding that some have of this religion. Just as you would want to do if someone had a wrong impression of Christianity.
